Hello, lovers and friends!
Welcome back to The Joint Account, a newsletter helping couples talk about money. We’re the Boneparths, two halves of this, well, joint account.
Over the past year, more than 12,000 subscribers have joined us on weekly double dates in this space. Together, we’ve laughed about the junk in our basements; cried over selecting health insurance plans; questioned the invisible costs in our lives; and made some seriously big decisions. We’ve also received some great attention from our friends at CNBC and other publications.
If this feels like the lead-up to a formal announcement, that’s because it is. We are so thrilled to be back on Substack, where we began our individual writing journeys with Our Tiny Rebellions and This Is The Top. Here on Substack, we can incorporate audio to add personality to our posts (and troll each other, which is a treat in itself); we can start Chats on specifics topics; we can share Notes about other cool newsletters we’re reading; and we can engage with you better through the Substack app, which you should download now if you haven’t already. We look forward to rolling out additional features for paid subscribers in 2025. Stay tuned on that, but in the meantime, we are grateful for any amount you wish to contribute in support of our work.
Behind the scenes, we are working on our second book together—this one about love and money. We’ve spent hours interviewing real couples about their most personal beliefs and experiences. Their stories are messy, beautiful, heartbreaking, and emotional, which should not come as a surprise; and yet, they will surprise you. They illustrate the exact reason why conflicts over money are the most pervasive, recurrent, and difficult challenges for couples to overcome: because money is not just money. Handling it with fairness, respect, and love passes to all areas of your lives. We’ve met so many of these couples through The Joint Account, and we don’t want to wait until Fall 2025 to engage with them—and you—deeper on these important topics. We know that on Substack, we can do just that.
Happy birthday, The Joint Account. We hope you enjoy your new home, which Mommy and Daddy got a great interest rate on.

Since our lives are about to be an open book quite literally, I (Heather) thought we should start showing you a little more of our actual chaotic lives. Back in February, I insisted we take some new headshots, which we could only manage to schedule on a Saturday in NYC. Of course, that meant all of Team Boneparth had to participate. Our 8-year-old, Hazel, became a quick photographer’s apprentice and stole the show, while our 5-year old, Ruby, was too deep in a Gabby’s Dollhouse bender on her iPad to come on camera by the time we all were feeling silly. Guilt consumed me just now, sharing a photo without her in it, so this is what you get! Like the ways we approach money, we’re not perfect—no one is—but let’s own it and get better together.
