Hello!
We’re the Boneparths. You may know us from such places as: the internet, the metaverse, or your real, actual life. In any case, we are grateful you are here.
Here’s a bit about us. Doug is a millennial finance expert and the president and founder of Bone Fide Wealth in New York City. He’s been profiled in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, and has many viral hits on social media. Investopedia calls him one of the Top 10 most influential financial advisors, and he sits on the CNBC Financial Advisor Council. Heather is a *recovering* corporate attorney, writer, and director of business affairs for the firm. Years ago, we published our first book about millennials and their money while on parental leave with our oldest daughter. (As one does.)
This is not either of our first Substack rodeos. Heather wrote her OG newsletter, Our Tiny Rebellions, to search for greater meaning in women’s little wins and losses. Doug's newsletter, This Is The Top, combined personal finance with cultural commentary on the way millennials work, live, and spend their money.
Yet here we are, together in The Joint Account, merging what was possibly the last thing we had to ourselves.
“Why in the world would you do this?” you’d ask, and we’re glad you did.
We’re writing a new book about love and money!
Expected in Fall 2025, our book goes deeper than the numbers. You’ll learn how to marry your money beliefs to the person you’re married to and find fairness in your relationship through all of life’s curveballs.
We are so excited, but there’s a long runway between now and pub day, and too much to say to wait until then. Addressing money from all angles will improve your partnership. In this space, you’ll hear from Doug on the more quantitative (like, how much should be in an emergency fund?) and Heather on the qualitative (like, how can I explain to my partner that we need an after school sitter when he thinks we have it covered?). Sometimes, you’ll hear from us together.
Talking about money is hard, because it’s not just about the money. It’s about power, values, trust, and feeling seen.
Are you in? Then forward this newsletter to your partner and get them to subscribe, too. Let’s go there together. It’s kind of like we’re on a double date, but you don’t have to listen to Doug talk about memes for two hours.
Finally, this works better when we hear from you. If you have a couples-related money question that you’d like for us to answer in an issue of The Joint Account, please email us: themergebook@gmail.com. Nothing is too big, small, or icky.
Thanks for being here. We’re excited to see where this goes together.
— Doug + Heather :)
